Opal Tapes offshoot Black Opal front an EP of emotive acid traxx from Brooklyn-based producer Patricia. The lo-fi production on Heavy Merging provides a nice warmth that sets it apart from your standard 303-led fare. Patricia also adds character by the use of some mournfully beautiful synth pads on cuts like ‘No One Needs Nothing’. Indeed, ‘Too Many Takes’ contains sleek and evocative harmonies that could pass for Depeche Mode if they weren’t anchored by the bass and beats of electro.
