Posh Isolation prankster Varg returns with new mixtape Evanescence (A Love Letter). This is another broad-ranging set of electronic compositions from the Swedish artist. Cuts like ‘Love Letter (City Sky, Introduction)’ and ‘Wear It (100,000 Petals Fell Like Rain)’ draw close to Eartheater in their computer-voice samples and grandiose deconstructed rhythms. Elsewhere on the record we take in trap, hard techno, Sadboy ambient and more. This disparate range of influences could make for a jarring mix, but Varg’s aesthetic command and the general air of melancholy that hangs over Evanescence (A Love Letter) draws things together.
