Whities kick off 2019 with a drop from Parisian producer Bambounou. The 21st record released on Nic Tasker’s label harks back to Minor Science’s Whities 012 and the superb drops in the label’s Blue series. Born from a set of sounds made for his 2017 set at Freerotation, what Bambounou brings us here is an EP of nervy and schizophrenic techno where percussion is the main focus. ‘Temple’ is the most club-friendly cut, a busy whirl of drums that nods to Timedance artists Ploy, Bruce and Batu. Meanwhile the more arid, half-danceable ‘Tour’ and ‘Seize-sept’ wouldn’t sound out of place on The Trilogy Tapes. On Whities 021 the label once again lights the way in forward-thinking electronics.
