Along with Light In The Attic and Mule Musiq’s Studio Mule offshoot, We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want can claim to be one of the go-to labels for Japanese underground reissues. Their latest drop, a new edition of Normal Brain’s 1981 LP Lady Maid, only strengthens their case. Originally put out on the same imprint that released work by Sympathy Nervous and Tolerance, this LP is an essential nugget of mid-period Japanese electronics. A strong Kraftwerk influence can be heard on ‘M-U-S-I-C’ and ‘You Are Busy, I Am Easy’, while ‘K-300’ bridges the gap between minimal synth and the ‘environmental music’ popular in the country at the time. Side-long closer ‘Fragment’ is a wonderful ambient synthscape.
