Hailing from Perth, Australia, Methyl Ethel is the dark pop musical project of frontman Jake Webb. Icy synths, glam riffs and, unexpectedly, 80s pop songwriting sensibilities abound on Triage, the project’s third LP, but Webb’s lyrics reveal a more reflective soul than on previous releases. ‘Real Tight’ and ‘Scream Whole’ come off crooning consolation, while ‘Trip The Mains’ is wistful in its heartbreak. The whole is a generous, infectious art-pop record sure to shake some bodies at an indie disco.
