Critically acclaimed for ultra-minimal explorations of the techno sound, Montrealer Ghislain Poirier recently converted to the religion of head-bobbing with his punishing ragga-style beats and deconstructed, abstract hip hop. "Be Strong" is Poirier's second collaboration with Shockout. He recently released two albums: Beats as Politics on Chocolate Industries, featuring Diverse and French-Canadian MC S???ba and Conflicts on Intr_version. Breakupdown is due later this year on Chocolate Industries and features Beans, Diverse and S???ba.
Eight Frozen Modules explore the boundaries of sonic bliss, scaling and shaping sounds, creating an erratically cohesive stream of audio data. No sound is left unchanged, and rhythms are sculpted to the point where time signatures are indistinguishable and irrelevant. A by-product of EFM's dedication to the re-engineering of sound is self-imposed cabin fever that bounces from giggling mania to panicked oblivion. A love of dub and ragga production led to work with Shockout, laying tracks and producing for topnotch DJs such as Wayne Lonesome and Daddy Screw.
