Accompanying pieces to Tim Lawrence’s book of the same name, the Life And Death ... compilations shine light on one of club music’s most fertile epochs. With disco, house, post-punk and Latin styles combining in the melting-pot of early-’80s NYC, artists such as David Byrne, Loose Joints and James White & The Blacks were making dancefloor fillers as innovative as they were groovy. This set rounds out with ‘Rapper Dapper Snapper’, a seminal jam from the late Edwin Birdsong.
