London-based reissue specialists Kalita Records come through with one of their best finds yet. Okyerema Asante’s debut LP Sabi was first released on a small run in the early ‘80s. Previously only available in Africa, this new pressing of Sabi brings the Ghanaian’s slinky brand of Afro-Disco to the UK for the first time. Both ‘Sabi (Get Down)’ and ‘That’s My Girl’ are rubbery blends of Hi-Life, Accra funk and the disco sound that was just starting to make waves across West Africa at the time. It’s no surprise that the likes of Hunee, Gilles Peterson and Alexander Nut have all professed their love for Sabi.
