After a three-year absence Julia Kent returns to The Leaf Label (The Comet Is Coming, Matthew Bourne) with a new LP. Temporal is an impressive and stormy set of compositions from Kent that blurs the line between the synthetic and the organic. Opener ‘Last Hour Story’, with its swelling strings and blippy mist of electronics, lays down the gauntlet in some style. Cuts such as ‘Floating City’ and ‘Sheared’ use a similar combination of instruments in a manner that recalls Max Richter. Elsewhere on Temporal the bass-heavy ‘Imbalance’ could pass for one of The Haxan Cloak’s productions for serpentwithfeet. Closer ‘Crepuscolo’ is an amber-suspended ambience ala one of the instrumentals from Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ Skeleton Tree.
