Jeff Mills launches yet another sub-label of his famed Axis Records. It’s not yet clear what Str Mrkd (that’s pronounced ‘Star Marked’, by the way) will offer us that 6277, Luxury, Purpose Maker and the rest can’t. However, one thing that’s certainly not in doubt is the quality of the music Str Mrkd will be releasing - this is Jeff Mills after all. The eponymous first Str Mrkd drop is vintage Mills. Across the four tracks here the Detroit legend niftily balances minimal techno grooves with sci-fi synths and dystopian modulars. ‘Albali’ and ‘Helix Nebula’ are particularly fine tools for the discerning DJ.
