After LPs for The Death Of Rave and Entr’acte, Young Echo member and all-round audio upstart Sam Kidel drops a new record through Latency (Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Laurel Halo). Silicon Ear is another set of conceptual sonic trickery from the artist who once released an album called Disruptive Muzak. A-Side ‘Live @ Google Data Centre’ finds Kidel using the blueprints of the Google building to build up a sound world that ‘mimetically hacks’ the space. In real terms, this means that his algorithmically-generated rave sounds as if it’s taking place within Google headquarters, giving the music - part-Lorenzo Senni, part-Holly Herndon - an additionally mischievous edge.
