Waking Life is another LP of impeccable dub-influenced club cuts from Deadbeat (Scott Monteith). There are few artists currently operating who are able to work in the Basic Channel template of delay-drenched techno with the aplomb of Deadbeat. Cuts here like ‘Waking Dub’, ‘Midnight In The Garden’ and epic closer ‘A Last Swim’ are all masterfully-crafted pieces of Berghain fodder. Meanwhile ‘A New Sense Of Purpose’ veers closer to tech-house and ‘A Thousand Shining Stars’ features short-circuiting synth sounds not dissimilar to KiNK.
