Scatter are young people from Glasgow, a loose organization of musicians whose eclecticism and talent makes for an amazing ensemble that sounds like nothing else you would have heard before.

At times melodic and song-oriented, Scatter also have tendencies in the improv direction, making a glorious noise that sounds something like a what Pharoah Sanders would sound like if he came from Glasgow, all earthy drones, jazzy drums and an approach that's influenced by Scottish Folk but it's a strange and beautiful mix. This second album, the followup to 2004?s acclaimed Surprising S'ing Stupendous Love', finds the band exploring darker territory, with some new instrumentation (viola, trombone) and a new vocalist (Hanna Andrews). Oliver Neilson?s spoken madness returns, and the music is still focused around the bouzouki of Chris Hladowski and Alexander Neilson?s explosive drumming. Quite thrilling, totally unique and very talented. This is one of the most exciting ensembles in Britain, and it's an album that will be uncovered in years to come as one of the best things about 2006.
