Now Again Records come through with an excellent compilation. Those Shocking Shocking Days focuses on the anti-establishment rock of 1970s Indonesia. Artistic expression was heavily censored during the rule of dictator Suharto, a move that drove Indonesian music scenes underground and has meant that many of the country’s great bands have never been heard much outside of the island nation. Now, through the efforts of Jason ‘Moss’ Connoy and Benny Soebardja, the music is finally reaching a wider audience. The styles on display here range from sun-drenched psychedelic rock (Soebardja’s own ‘Candle Light’, performed with his band Lizard) to hard funk and prog.
