A 1981 LP from Guyanese band The Yoruba Singers gets reissued courtesy of Cultures Of Soul (SJOB Movement, Asha Bhosle). Having been going for a decade by the time they released this album, the group’s sound on Fighting For Survival is a fine-tuned mix of soul, funk, reggae and calypso. Potent protest tracks such as ‘Revolution Day’ are balanced out by more celebratory numbers like ‘Drums Make The World Go Round’.
