Sculpting out the bones of noise, techno, ambient and all manner of wonderful and frightening sounds, Nate Young presents Volume One: Dilemmas Of Identity on his co-operated Wolf Eyes in-house imprint, Lower Floor.

Built from the influence of synth soundtracks, ambient and electronic body music, Nate filters these through a typically off-centre Michigan underground sensibility. Trust us when we say, Volume One: Dilemmas Of Identity is the real deal. Opening with the expansive horizons and the long-form slowly evolving sound stream 'In The Shadow Of', traces of Nate's Regression series can be heard haunting the outer edges of the music, yet the cathartic drones submerge themselves in the same sort of worlds that make the very best ambient sides from Oren Ambarchi and Jim O'Rourke such crucial experiences. The pace quickly picks up with 'Mindless Voices' which is surely the most realised vision of Nate's detached techno yet, anyone who has witnessed Chris Carter's jaw-dropping live modular sets will find much to swim in here. Meanwhile, dub also plays a large part in Dilemmas Of Identity with 'The Weeping Babe' sounding like Tiger's Rap Pon Riddim instrumental if it had been cut with a trip metal refix on the flip, serious digi-killer vibes! Before 'Vents Of Blue' lets loose ghostly piano keys and (what could be) an accordion, all twisted up in the Nate Young noise machine and left to drift across the nighttime horizon and empty spaces of Detroit.

Made as a distraction from grief, seasonal depression, and isolation, Volume One: Dilemmas Of Identity features some of the most otherworldly sounds to ever come from Nate's studio.
