Roger Doyle’s illustrious career as one of Ireland’s leading contemporary classical music composers yielded an eclectic portfolio of film scores, theatre works and electro-acoustic pieces — but his singular genius was already apparent on his first LP, Oizzo No, a composite of all of the above. Started in earnest and completed in 1975 with the help of a scholarship at the University of Utrecht in Holland, Oizzo No is an overlooked gem of European avant-garde, and perhaps the first to incorporate Irish folk music.
