John T. Gast’s 5 Gate Temple imprint drops some new dub fire from TNT Roots. Roots was one half of ‘90s/early ‘00s neo-dub titans Earthquake Studio and he brings back the heavyweight production style of his old group on ‘Chant Down Babylon Verse 2’. Roots cloaks a seasick digi-dub groove in thick plumes of delay and reverb to create a deep and unnerving tune. On the flip Gast delivers a remix that combines a propulsive drum track with some warm, almost ambient synth work.
