Pearson Sound goes acid! Well, sort of. One cut on his new Rubble EP is, the Hessle Audio boss claims, his ‘first (and maybe last) acid track’. Built from a 303 bassline and 808 drum sounds, ‘Earwig’ certainly bears all the hallmarks of the genre. However, Pearson Sound unsurprisingly gives acid his own unique spin here. ‘Earwig’s unusual combination of slo-mo groove and busy hi-hats means one can detect both dubstep and footwork influences. Elsewhere on the EP the title track is classic Pearson Sound, all snapping drums and menacing bassline, and closer ‘Our Spirits Soar’ lives up to its title - this is possibly the purest piece of peak time club euphoria that Pearson Sound has ever given us.
