Ryoji Ikeda's new project test pattern forms part of the artist's ongoing datamatics series.

Test pattern is created from a system that converts any type of data (text, sounds, photos and movies) into barcode patterns and binary patterns of 0s and 1s.

This album feels like a follow-up to the Dataplex album, it occasionally reminds of Autechre at their most extreme as seemingly random extreme frequencies in patterns of rhythm form a very physical relationship with the listener, on a big system they seem to squash and bend your ears and your brain as they flow from the speakers, as you try to make sense of them, without the safety net of 'normal' musical composition.

Again Raster Noton and Ikeda test the limits of what music is and it's exciting and strange.
