Jibóia crops up on Discrepant (Pierre Bastien, El Mahdy Jr) with an ambitious new LP. On OOOO (try Googling that…) the Portuguese musician enlists the help of Ricardo Martins (Pop Dell’Arte, BRUXAS/COBRAS) and André Pinto (Notwan, O Morto) to create a record of potent psychedelic music. Though rooted in psych-rock, the focus on drones and busy percussion rhythms means that numbers such as ‘Diapason’ and ‘Diatessaron’ take on the frenzied qualities of Goat and Boredoms. Fifteen-minute closer ‘Topos’ draws on free jazz.
