Despite the sheer visionary brilliance of his output thus far, you could say that My East Is Your West offers the definitive Sarathy Korwar experience. Much is made of the 1960s/1970s West’s fascination with Eastern mysticism, but few have succeeded in capturing the psychedelic essence quite like Korwar live; the bandleader melds gorgeous, droning Indian classical music intonations across jazz classics by Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane, arguably offering superior versions to the originals.
