Though Ens is the debut LP from Koen Holtkamp’s BEAST project, the chances are that you already be familiar with Holtkamp’s oeuvre. For the past few years, Holtkamp has made music both as a solo artist and alongside Brendon Anderegg as part of Mountains. As BEAST, Holtkamp hones in on a warm, sweet style of ambient electronic composition. One could easily imagine ‘Color Feel’ and ‘Edb’ cropping up on Erased Tapes rather than Thrill Jockey. Elsewhere, cuts like ‘Paprika Shorts’ have a bit of an IDM flavour to them.
