Film Records provides a home for Utopia Cloak’s Marina Garden EP. The six tracks here find the producer working their way through a series of melodious bedroom-electronic styles. Entries such as ‘Work’ and ‘Letters’ combine tuneful synths and gently cresting beats in a manner not dissimilar to Maribou State. Elsewhere on the EP ‘Reinflate-Deinflate’ has a faint, wistful electro-funk flavour to it that nods to Jam City’s Dream A Garden, while ‘Celebration’ is the most sonically adventurous number - the juxtaposition of Boards Of Canada-style electronic pop with a glitchy interlude makes for one of Marina Garden’s more arresting moments.
