Linking up with Four Tet's Text imprint for the first time since 2016, Taraval delivers a new no-nonsense EP of murderous UKG and house infected rhythm trax. Having let a handful of white label copies loose around last weekend's Brixton All Nighter, Four Tet slays the sharks with the hotly anticipated full release of this ace example of why Taraval truly has the chops.
In the time since his debut 12"s 'Streetways' and 'II', Taraval has not only fired out one of the best releases from Hypercolour in an age but has also been performing as part of the Caribou Vibration Ensemble. However, his return to Text brings with it some of his hardest material yet.
Lead cut 'Aardvark' bounces along with the velocity of the greatest up-tempo UKG rollers, with the shakers and drum breaks adding a nice crispy edge. 'Pumpkin' moves with all the swagger of B'Hain techno, yet its purple synth shards add a distinctly UK feel, before the crumbling brutality of 'Basketball Cookie' ends things on a sweet tip.
Typically wicked set from Text for the refresh button hitting crew ...
