Throughout the late ‘60s and early ‘70s the academic, archivist and field recordist William R. Ferris travelled around his home state of Mississippi. His quest was to chronicle, as the likes of Alan Lomax had before him, the variant blues styles of the region. This new Dust-To-Digital compilation collects some of Ferris’ fieldwork on vinyl for the first time. The blues, gospel and spoken word pieces that appear on Voices Of Mississippi: Artists And Musicians Documented By William Ferris make for potent listening. This is a fine work of musical preservation.
