Canadian saxophonist and composer Joseph Shabason delivers a touching arrangement of mood pieces, threaded together by intimate recorded conversations with his mother, after whom the album is named, as she succumbs to Parkinson’s disease. The tragic theme of the album is handled with deep sensitivity by Shabason’s lilting tonality, seemingly appearing precisely when he needs to, as amniotic ambient textures fill the ears, like full submersion in a body of water. This is music for that which cannot be adequately spoken.
