Unknown Mortal Orchestra follows up his celebrated Sex & Food LP with a collection of impressionistic improvisations. IC-01 Hanoi was taped at the Vietnamese studio Phu Sa. Local musicians joined UMO mastermind Ruban Nielson, his brother Kody, their father and longtime UMO collaborator Jacob Portrait for the sessions. The jams that ensued make for a highly potent listening experience. Fusing psych-rock, jazz, funk, Krautrock and traditional Vietnamese musics, the tracks here are a surprising stylistic left-turn for Nielson. Credit to him and the rest of the musicians involved here for pulling this one off.
