Mule Musiq’s offshoot label Studio Mule drops their second album by Motohiko Hamase. What we have here is a reissue of the Japanese artist’s 1986 record Reminiscence (bar a couple of tracks that they couldn’t fit onto the vinyl). The album combines Hamase’s chops on the jazz bass with his interests in ambient and New Age composition. The resulting tracks are busy and dynamic but never overwhelming - they come off as a combination of Weather Report’s fusions and Mkwaju Ensemble’s post-minimalist pieces
