Digital reissue of Babe Rainbow's Falling Apart... Here's what we said when it was first released: After two EPs for Warp and touring as part of How To Dress Well’s backing band, Cameron Reed aka Babe Rainbow resurfaces with his first full-length for Kinky Beggar. On Falling Apart, the Canadian producer redefines his sound, dodging any genre categorisation. Beat-based instrumentals with catchy synth lines as heard in ‘The Bells’ link his album to previous releases. Reeds juxtaposes them with abstract, ambient textures: the wonderful ‘Dub Music’ builds up layers of chords to create an enveloping wall of dense sound. On the title track, Reed’s addition of refined drum machines links to hip hop, and ‘Twin Peaks’ endearing atmosphere is created from ebbing drones, those overtones making for some truly beautiful harmonies.
