RVNG Intl.’s Freedom To Spend offshoot have dropped a couple of records from Robert Cox’s Rimarimba project of late. The one that has got people most excited has been the reissue of Rimarimba’s 1983 release Below The Horizon. One listen to this thing and you can see what all the fuss was about. Existing in a hinterland between post-punk, minimalism and New Age music, the three tracks of this album are quirky and charming bedroom explorations. Imagine if Arthur Russell had managed to unite both the Tower Of Meaning and Calling Out Of Context sides of his practice and you’ll get close to what Rimarimba do here.
