Be With Records come through with another excellent reissue in the form of Ghanaian singer/percussionist Buari’s eponymous 1975 LP. After spending the first half of the 1960s as a sprinter (he won two medals at the All-African Games!) and the second half studying in New York City and Chicago, Sidiku Buari spent the ‘70s and ‘80s cutting records with the noble intention that they should ‘giv[e] pleasure to dancers as well as educate…’. The eight tunes here do just that. These are ebullient marriages of hi-life, disco and Accra funk. You may recognise ‘Advice From Father’ from it being sampled by both Groove Armada and The Bucketheads.
