Genres

Jay Glass Dubs returns with a record that synthesises the sounds of his Greek childhood with the dub techniques of his practice. Plegnic showcases five ponderous tracks, smothered in delay and reverb, which frequently incorporate samples or vocals from Greek music. The A-sides in particular are weird, lumbering things. Slow, syrupy beats characterise ‘Temple Dub’ and ‘Umbro Dub’, and with the additional atmospherics provided by plumes of reverb the overall effect is pitched somewhere between Huerco S. and Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement. The ‘Dry’ and ‘Fearless’ dubs that make up the B-side are more sprightly, though these approximations of footwork and dancehall are still highly unusual.
