The fifth LP from Bordeaux composer Franck Zaragoza comes out on Oakland-based label N5MD. Breaking with the style of his past LPs ‘Inner’ showcases a selection of work in which Zaragoza’s synth sounds are encouraged to float freely over the album’s arrangements, unhindered by prevailing piano sections. Described as a dedication to individuals missed by the French composer, the emotive content of his work comes thus as no surprise. The title track is a sorrowful piece of self-exploration, a passage into the deeper territories of one’s psyche. ‘Embers’ is similarly touching, brimming with stunning spatial noise and glowing textures, hints of friction punctuating the course of Zaragoza’s composition as it unfolds.
