Marie Davidson’s debut EP was originally released way back in 2012. Since then the Canadian techno-pop auteur has engineered a steady rise to prominence that has placed her at the forefront of the synthwave/minimal wave resurgence. Particularly with many listeners still eager for a full-length to follow 2016’s excellent Adieux Au Dancefloor, now seems a good time to reissue her first offering in order to tide people over before the next LP is out. The six tracks here are rough and ready takes that come cloaked in a lo-fi hiss. Marie Davidson EP’s best moments arise when Davidson slows the beats down and allows her plaintive vocals to wash over the tracks in a manner reminiscent of Glasser.
