There must be something in the water in Vancouver. Recent years has seen the city serve up a glut of new acts and labels - Mood Hut Records, Pacific Rhythm and Planet Euphorique all spring to mind - that are reinvigorating the sounds of deep and lo-fi house. It’s PE that we’re concerning ourselves with here. After a superb debut drop from Rosa Terenzi & DJ Zozi, D. Tiffany’s imprint comes through with a four-track EP by Big Zen. The artist’s name is apt - there’s a tranquility at the heart of these retro-flavoured house jams. ‘Weo’s midsection even features a voice encouraging the listener to ‘let yourself go’ in a manner more commonly associated with New Age music than dancefloor rollers. Big Zen makes it work though. Key3 is another win for British Columbia.
