Back in 2016 the Canadian imprint Telephone Explosion (Ty Segall, Teenanger) reissued a pair of records by the pioneering electronic musician Bruce Haack. Subsequently the label got in touch with Haack’s friend/business partner Ted Pandel to discuss further new editions of Haack’s work. Pandel, however, had something else in mind. He let the TE crew into Haack’s archives, making the label privy to reams of hitherto-unreleased music. Some of those rarities are now compiled on new LP Preservation Tapes. Many of the tracks here were dubbed at a time when Haack was recording with Christian label Sparrow Records. His religious preoccupations come through in the lyrics and lend Haack’s synthesiser ditties an air of transcendental beauty. The overall feeling is of some figurative collaboration between Laraaji and Mark Mothersbaugh.
