Swiss occultists Hallow Ground (Dedekind Cut, Norman Westberg) release the latest solo LP from Siavash Amini. Foras is a record that, according to its press release, is inspired by the relationship between the outer world and a person’s inner life. This aesthetic manifests itself in fluctuations between eerie, unsettling soundscapes and moments of melancholy beauty. Opener ‘First Came Their Shadows’, for example, spends its opening half swelling to a wall of sound that could grace a Sunn O))) record before melting away into a syrup-slow dawn chorus reminiscent of Ian William Craig. These plays of light and shadow mean that Foras is a record which amply rewards patient listening.
