A year on from his excellent Cognitive Resonance EP, Berlin-based techno innovator Nicolas Bougaïeff returns to NovaMute with quartet of Berghain bangers. There is no room to hide on Permutation Djinn. All of the four tracks here are unrelenting in their desire to rattle club windows as much as possible. Anyone who enjoyed the visceral EBM the characterised Cognitive Resonance will latch on to the lurching grooves of ‘Panic Time Tryout’ and ‘No Escape’. Elsewhere ‘Little Djinn’ is a devilishly nifty number reminiscent of Surgeon and ‘Woke Up As A Copy’ is a grinding, spooky slab of minimal techno. Great stuff.
