The Accidental Jnr imprint - a sub-label of Matthew Herbert’s Accidental - are currently reissuing a few of the boss’s old joints. One of these is Part Two, a three-track EP cut in the mid-1990s from a time when the composer/producer was going by the family name. Herbert’s style at the time was based around a shuffling, soulful deep house style similar to Moodymann and Kenny Dixon Jr.. This is clearly signposted by the track titles on Part Two. ‘Deeper’ is deep, and ‘Shuffler’ shuffles. The busy groove of the former is particularly nice. Herbert’s idiosyncrasies shine through on ‘Non-Stop’ - while still packing plenty of dancefloor punch, the track’s jacked vocal samples and wobbly bassline recalls both ghettotech and Mr. Scruff in equal measure.
