The inimitable Scratcha DVA drops a new full-length. Though the one born Leon Mark is best known for blending UK Funky and grime when on the decks, his records tend to be more wide-ranging in scope. This holds for Interludes, a series of vignettes that range from Baroque-pop string pieces to leftfield r&b. It’s no surprise that there is a cut on here called ‘Babyfather’. The prevalence for spoken-word passages, unwieldy synth sounds and odd track titles (‘Charlie Brooker Knows Sumfing We Dnt’, ‘0111001101101101011000010111001001110100’) has a whiff of Dean Blunt about it. Interludes is an unusual and strangely compelling album.
