Superior Viaduct (Steve Reich, Liquid Liquid) reissue Faust’s seminal 1973 album The Faust Tapes. At the time of release, the group were at pains to insist that The Faust Tapes was not their third studio LP, rather a collection of odds-and-sods put out to celebrate them signing to Virgin. Indeed, there are many tracks here that have the feel of sketches, and no post-production went into the record. However, it is precisely this feeling of intimacy and off-the-cuff, the freewheeling spontaneity that makes The Faust Tapes one of the Krautrock pioneers’ most crucial works. Here the album comes reproduced with Bridget Riley’s famous cover artwork.
