Karlrecords (Bill Laswell, Iannis Xenakis) welcome Turkish artist Hüma Utku into the fold with a release from her R.A.N. project. R.A.N. - which stands for Roads At Night - releases tend to err on the heavy side, but rarely has Utku given us something as brooding and powerful as Şeb-i Yelda. These four tracks combine glitching electronics, drone, industrial rock, techno and doom metal to make a sound rich with dark portent. The title track, for instance, morphs from Gothic power electronics of the sort that one usually associates with Prurient into a hissing beat that could have been on the soundtrack to The Matrix.
