Paranoid London and Bubbles were planning to make a track together. However, just before the former was due to send over the instrumental Bubbles was shot and killed in her native San Francisco in what appeared to be an anti-transgender hate crime. ‘The Boombox Affair’, then, is a sort of posthumous collaboration which brings together Paranoid London’s burbling acid groove with a sample from a video of the late DJ/activist. There is also the ‘Beats And Bubbles’ dub and the ‘Acidapella’, a version that strips out the original drums. The Boombox Affair EP honours Bubbles’ legacy in two ways - by putting her front and centre, but also by encouraging you to dance in the face of hate.
