What more can one say about Nevermind? The cultural reach of Nirvana’s sophomore LP is so vast, its aesthetic so ubiquitous and its songs so familiar, that singing its praises almost feels like a moot point. You know how Dave Grohl’s ever-thwacking arms make those drums sound so good, and you know how Krist Novoselic’s bass rumbles in the lines of Grohl’s grooves. You sure as hell know how Kurt Cobain can distil apathy, cynicism, passion and humour into a lyric like no-one else can. You know that you want to be mates with all three of them (but especially Kurt). You know all the words to ‘Lithium’, air-drum all the fills to ‘In Bloom’, and scream along to ‘Territorial Pissings’. You know there’s not a bad track on this album, and you know you want to listen to it one more time.
