The Berlin-born musical composer known primarily through his involvement with Brandt Brauer Frick finally releases a debut solo album, despite a career spanning two decades. The long awaited solo LP was constructed over a period of only two months and utilises an array of instruments and field recording techniques, including samples from the composer’s archive of work from the past twenty years. Influenced by his trip hop origins, Frick’s work is a tapestry of random influences, some as peculiar as the novel ‘Anniversaries’ by Uwe Johnson. The pulse of ‘Karamasow’ is sonically gloopy, and it splutters and dives into emotive territory, but at almost nine minutes in length, the journey it takes us on is moving compromise between electronic priorities and piano led sequences.
