Motor City Drum Ensemble and Pablo Valentino’s MCDE Recordings (Henry Wu & Earl Jeffers, Garnier) present a new EP from rising star Hugo LX. As one might expect from a release on a label run by two astute house heads, Desiderata is a classy affair that will perk up any party. One could imagine MCDE himself would be happy if he’d come up with ‘Desire’ and ‘Power’. Indeed, opening cut ‘Phone Games’ could have surfaced as part of his Raw Cuts series and no-one would have batted an eyelid. In the middle of Desiderata we get the dreamy Detroitism of ‘Dee’ and the tranquil Rhodes jazz of ‘Underwater’.
