Jitwam’s Purple EP is arguably the singer-songwriter/producer’s most focussed project yet. Where previous releases had a tendency to flit between genres - lo-fi house, drone and leftfield r&b all got a look in on 2017’s TJD006 - Purple does one thing, and it does it really well. These four tracks are all soulful house jams that maintain the home-taping comforts of Jitwam’s previous records while simultaneously streamlining his sound for maximum dancefloor impact. Both the title track and ‘Stronger’ could pass for Prince, while the other two entries here have a bit of a Rhythm Section International/MCDE feel to them. Great work.
