Julee Cruise’s 1989 LP Floating Into The Night came to be one of the most influential records of the subsequent decade - a feat due in large part to the instrumental of ‘Falling’ being used as the theme tune for David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The genesis of that record can be found in these three demos, now issued by Sacred Bones under the title of (surprise, surprise) Three Demos. The lush arrangements that turn up on Floating Into The Night are nowhere to be found. Instead, these versions are suspended takes that feature little more than synthesisers and vocals. It makes for a haunting listen.
