The first album from Toronto-based electronic musician David Psutka’s latest moniker ACT! comes in the form of ‘Universalist’. On ‘Universalist’ an energetic ensemble of seemingly inharmonious and chaotic sounds come together to form a vibrant tapestry of club euphoria and free sound, the unifying impact of the noise carrying us from one end of the track to the other with beautiful grace. Released on Halocline Trance alongside Psutka’s other alias, Egyptrixx, in addition to the artists Anamai and Ceramic TL, ‘Universalist’ is an experiment in deconstructed sound/genre, with periods of dark and challenging noise suddenly interrupted by splutters of angelic relief and new age synth.
